Book in French — English title: Non-Parametric Estimation
This book, the first of its kind, deals – in French – with non-parametric estimation at a level accessible to Master’s students. Only some elementary knowledge of probability is required to tackle this very clear and detailed course.
Presenting methods for the construction of estimators, it can be approached from two angles. The first, practical and applied, is illustrated by numerous computer programs, complete and fully working, which shed light on the theoretical concepts. The second sets out to provide proofs and a rigorous mathematical framework for non-parametric estimation. Exercises and problems with solutions consolidate the notions developed.
Starting from elementary concepts in probability and statistics, the progression allows the reader to become familiar, quite naturally, with current research topics in the field. It will therefore suit students beginning the second year of a Master’s degree, as an aid to success in their studies, just as well as young researchers interested in these questions.
Fabienne Comte
A former student of the ENS Cachan, agrégée in mathematics and professor at Université Paris Descartes (Paris V), Fabienne Comte has for many years taught the course on non-parametric estimation in the research Master 2 “Modélisation et Statistiques pour la Biologie” and in the Master “Ingénierie Mathématique pour les Sciences du Vivant”, which she directed for ten years.
As committed to teaching as she is to research, she has also served on various scientific committees (Comité National du CNRS, ANR, CNU, FSMP) and has recently become director of MAP5 (UMR 8145), the applied mathematics laboratory in which she works.
