This book covers the whole of the extensive advanced mathematics syllabus for first-year students in the economics and business preparatory classes, general track (ECG).
In addition to precise definitions and statements of the concepts to be mastered, the author has emphasised rigour of reasoning, proving the results presented clearly and exhaustively, and sometimes going a little beyond them, in order to prepare students for the demands of the competitive entrance examinations.
A great many remarks and detailed examples help readers identify the essential issues and the knowledge they must be able to bring to bear. They are accompanied by 200 exercises that will enable readers to gain a firm command of the results of the course, all with detailed solutions.
Finally, historical notes, illustrated with portraits of some thirty mathematicians, place the tools used in the context of their discovery: seen from a different angle, they become easier to grasp.
Ivan Boyer
A former student of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris (ranked first in the entrance examination), holder of the agrégation and a doctorate in mathematics, Ivan Boyer taught mathematics and computer science for nine years in the economics and business preparatory classes at the Lycée Saint-Louis in Paris. He now teaches in the MP preparatory class at the Lycée Champollion in Grenoble.
His teaching draws on long experience of teaching and oral examining in various preparatory classes, as well as on many years of marking competitive examinations.
