In this second-year computer science course, Denis Monasse once again shares with us the wealth of his experience, the fruit of many years of teaching in the preparatory classes at the Lycée Louis le Grand in Paris, where, ever since computer science was introduced as an option in the preparatory classes, he has guided countless students on the path to success.
Particular emphasis is placed on rigour and on the explanation of computing concepts, both theoretical and practical (with more than 190 programs and 47 illustrations). Although it follows on logically from the first-year course (which covers, among other things, the basics of programming in CAML), this book can nevertheless be read independently, since all the necessary points are revisited.
While the programming language is specific to the computer science option in MP/MP*, the concepts transfer readily to other languages (Java, Objective-C or Swift) and will be of equal interest to second-year university students, to candidates preparing for the teaching competitive examinations and to anyone wishing to acquire a solid grounding in computer science.
Denis Monasse
A former student of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, Denis Monasse has for many years taught mathematics in the MP* preparatory class at the Lycée Louis Le Grand.
In addition to his extensive teaching experience, he has served on a variety of examination boards, from the CAPES to the agrégation in mathematics, including the oral examinations of the École Centrale Paris.
Equally committed to the teaching of computer science in the preparatory classes, he has also written two textbooks for the first and second years (L1 and L2), available in the same series.
