L'apprentissage des végétaux
Book in French — English title: Learning About Plants
This book is an indispensable tool for today’s aspiring professional florist. It sheds light on the world of the plants they will use to adorn the various occasions of our lives, to lay out indoor or outdoor green spaces in our flats, houses, courtyards and gardens, or to create displays for events in the worlds of fashion, industry and communication.
To meet the requirements of plants, one must first identify and name them. This first step opens the way to further information: lifespan, need for water and light, air humidity, and the size and colour of their flowers. For although they are all now cultivated outdoors or under cover, all plants – whether as foliage or flowering plants, cut flowers or cut foliage – have a natural origin, recorded in their genetic code, which determines their vital needs.
The complete official list of plants to be known for the CAP vocational diploma is illustrated here (list published in the Journal officiel on 11 April 2018). On the one hand, readers will find an initial classification grouping together plants that have the same water requirements and belong to the same family, along with some information on their temperature and light needs. On the other hand, they will have access to a substantial digital supplement through URLs and QR codes (for smartphones and tablets) accompanying each plant and providing illustrations and further specific information online.
This broader perspective will enable the future professional to be a link between two living worlds that breathe, feed, communicate and transform our planet: humans and plants. Let us learn to respect and serve them, for while plants can live without humans, the reverse is not true.
