La botanique des fleuristes
Book in French — English title: Botany for Florists
This book is dedicated to all florists who are fortunate enough to live in a soothing world, filled with silence, motionless but for the breath of air that stirs it, and yet so alive and so fascinating in its dimensions, shapes, scents, colours and textures.
A world that awakens our senses, surprises us and makes us wonder about life. An attempt to understand beings:
- which have no front or back such as all animals have, running in every direction to flee danger or in search of food,
- which possess only three organs with which to conquer eternity, with a longevity that is infinite and a growth that is unlimited compared with our own,
- which have no digestive system inside them but an external system of assimilation, spread over their entire underground or aerial surface,
- which have no brain centralising all information, but a multitude of cells that constantly analyse and respond to their environment, with a genetic make-up that varies between bottom and top and from one side to the other: these multiple sensitivities give them the power to get round an obstacle, to find water, light and air, to memorise or anticipate an event, to foresee an earthquake, to identify their kin and, finally, to be reborn from a fragment of one of their organs or from a single one of their cells.
How could we fail to marvel at all these plants, and to respect them, once we become aware of everything they give us beyond the beauty with which we work?
The daughter of a leading Parisian florist, she obtained her Maîtrise in Life and Earth Sciences from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in 1978. From 1980 to 1994 she worked in the family firm as manager of the greenhouses and nurseries of Ets Lambert-Bayard, in charge of large-scale floral displays for the exhibition centres of Versailles, Villepinte and Lyon.
In 1992 and 1993 she trained at the E.N.S.H.P. in Versailles in the creation and design of gardens, the history of garden art, and the theory and practice of gardening.
Since 1996 she has taught botany at the École des Fleuristes de Paris at CAP and BP level, and she was awarded the title of Formateur (accredited trainer) in 2002.
In 2005 she received the bronze medal of Technical Education and, in 2007, was made a Chevalier of the Ordre du Mérite Agricole and awarded the silver Médaille du Travail.
Since 2010 she has taught ecology to the Brevet de Maîtrise class.
