This volume is not intended to be yet another trumpet “method”, or a method for any other brass instrument. It does not run counter to your learning or your teaching; rather, it offers a point of view, an approach. It complements existing methods.
It shows you how to “make the sound”, so that, once the sound is established, musical expression, freed from technical and physical constraints, can develop to its full extent. Numerous explanatory videos accompany the text, notably via QR codes.
It is a path for you to build for yourself!
My teacher, Robert Pichaureau (1918–1999), after entering the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, was admitted to the Musique de l’Air, where he played the flugelhorn part. But he suffered when playing his instrument. He therefore approached his instrument from a different angle. His starting point was the observation of his own body, and above all of his breathing.
Alain Faucher
Now retired from the French national education system, where he “rubbed shoulders” with all kinds of learners (primary school, lower and upper secondary school, and teacher training), he is also, and above all, a trumpet teacher specialising in the teaching of breathing and physical relaxation during instrumental playing.
His work is the fruit of thorough maturation and practical application, and has been nourished by his long collaboration with Mr Robert Pichaureau.
His teaching aims to make players aware of bodily sensations as the mechanisms of breathing come into play during instrumental performance, in order to eliminate the contractions and tensions that impair both the production of the sound and its fullness.
